NMUN 2010 - Country Assignment
01.11.2009, 04:07 by Michael Kirmes
This afternoon, our delegation got its country assignment from the Secretary General of NMUN NY:
We will represent the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
Representing Sri Lanka will be an exciting and interesting task - you might know about the inner conflicts and the civil war that was just ended by an armistice by the Tamil side in May this year.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka is the second-fastest growing domestic economy in South Asia (only outrun by India) and therefore one of the most important countries in that region. This is also shown by the history of Sri Lanka, which was very interesting to colonial powers for a long time.
Sri Lanka is a member of five UN committees:
- General Assembly Plenary
- 1st Committee of the General Assembly (Disarmament and International Security)
- 2nd Committee of the General Assembly (Economic and Financial)
- 3rd Committee of the General Assembly (Social, Cultural & Humanitarian)
- International Atomic Energy Agency
We will be representing Sri Lanka at the NMUN in these committees with 2 delegates each.
NMUN 2010 - here we go
15.10.2009, 21:01 by Michael Kirmes
Today, we applied with a delegation of 10 students at the NMUN 2010 in New York at the Marriott hotel, between 3/30 and 4/4/2010. Thus, after four months of pre-preparation, collecting information and gathering participants, we are entering the crucial phase of preparation for the conference.
We will acquire sponsors, research facts and figures about our delegation country (as soon as we get our country assignment), memorize and rehearse rules of procedures, book hotels and flights, write position papers and so forth...
We are happy to take a part in this global project with such a small, but distinguished delegation of very motivated people.
FS MUN Second Introductory Meeting
20.05.2009, 03:34 by Michael Kirmes
We would like to invite all of you to the second meeting of FS Model United Nations. It doesn’t matter whether you attended our kick-off meeting last week or not. This follow-up will take place at Room 06 on Monday, May 25th of 2009 at 8pm.
For those who unfortunately could not meet us last week, I deliver some answers to questions you probably consider about this new initiative.
What does this new initiative?
FS MUN would like to represent our university at the world’s greatest UN simulation, the National Model United Nations (NMUN) 2010 and you can be part of it.
Where does the NMUN take place?
The NMUN is located in New York City, which gives us the great chance to have some meetings in the original UN Headquarters.
When does the NMUN take place?
Every year the NMUN is considered to take place during Holy Week. But there are always to venues in different hotels to ensure that all interested students (more than 4,000) from of all over the world can participate. As we don’t know in which of them we will participate, there are to time frames (28th March to 01st April or 30th March to 3rd April 2010)
Why should I participate? Are there any conditions?
There is only one condition for participating: You have to be enrolled at a university (yes, we are aware of the fact that there will be “new” alumni and try to figure out how to deal with that). However, if you are interested in global politics and motivated to get involved you will get to know a lot of interesting people and you will get the opportunity to deal with topics beyond your own nose in a very active way.
I am interested in that, but there are still some questions. Whom can I ask?
The easiest way would definitely be by participating in our follow-up meeting on Monday (May 25th) at 8pm in Room 06. Another possibility is to use the contact form to contact us.
FS MUN Introductory Meeting
12.05.2009, 21:36 by Michael Kirmes
Dear Frankfurt School students,
there is a plan to participate in next year’s National Model United Nations, the largest United Nations simulation in the world, as the Frankfurt School delegation. As this MUN takes place in New York City, we will have the great opportunity to enjoy some of our sessions at the UN Headquarters. In order to perform well and to ensure sufficient financials our preparation for this event has to start right now.
Students, interested in committing themselves to an educating and also enjoyable project, are welcome to join this delegation on Tuesday, May 19th of 2009 in Room 14. We will present the concept of MUN as well as our preliminary working plan in detail and hopefully start the preparation right from that day on.
We hope to see you!
